Old-growth wood siding on bungalows can hold paint for years once it's scraped, sanded and primed properly. Newer infill often uses Hardie, which needs a thorough wash and fresh caulk at the joints. The exterior is washed, soft washing older paint and masonry, and mildew is treated. Then every side is inspected for loose paint, open joints and soft wood.
Loose paint is scraped with care for containment, edges are sanded, bare wood is spot-primed, knots are sealed and seams are caulked where water could get in.
